Several weeks ago two birds started building a nest on our porch. Not just any nest, a nest out of mud. At first, I was a little annoyed by the birds who built a mud nest on our porch and then used the bathroom on our porch.
We watched as they worked hard and every evening the mama bird would sit in the nest and the daddy bird would perch right beside her on the porch. My annoyance disappeared as we were sitting outside one day and Braylen pointed up to the nest and said “bird.” She loved the birds. Every morning she would point to the front door and say “bird!” when we’d go out to see them she’d always “pretty, bird.”
Eventually the eggs hatched and we watched as the tiny birds grew. When we returned from vacation they were much bigger and would sit on the edge of the nest. Within a few days all of their feathers had grown and we knew any day they would fly away…
Then last week the mama bird came and made some loud and crazy bird sounds and they all followed her off. Braylen is a little confused and she doesn’t care much about the mud nest still sitting in the corner of our porch. I’m actually sad to see them gone too, maybe they’ll return next spring.

This post made me giggle! We had a Dove Nest in on of our palm trees. We loved watching those sweet babies grow. (But…holy moly they were loud!)

I love watching birds ๐ we have lots of bird feeders on our apple tree and I love watching the birds, especially in winter, munching on them. We’ve even had a red squirrel visiting it (the red squirrels are quite rare here in Ireland). At the moment there is a birds nest in our tractor (which is hardly used anymore since my dad retired from farming, but as he uses it the odd time, he can’t use it until the babies have flown away). It’s not the first time the tractor has become home to a family of birds either!
