recipe slightly adapted from Six Sisters’ Stuff
I have to start out by saying I’ve never attempted Chinese-style food at home. It’s always something that I’ve been intimidated by, but this just looked so good I couldn’t pass it up.
It’s super easy and it was a hit at our house.
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup of honey
1/4 c ketchup
3/4 c soy sauce (low sodium)
4 tablespoons dehydrated onion
2 cloves, minced garlic
4 teaspoons cornstarch dissolved into 6 tablespoons of water
sesame seeds
salt and pepper
brown rice
Place chicken in the crock-pot. Mix together the honey, ketchup, soy sauce, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Pour over the chicken and cook on low for about 4 hours.
Take the chicken out, cut into bite-sized pieces and add the cornstarch and water to the crock pot. Let it cook on high for about 20 minutes before adding the chicken back to the mixture in the crock-pot.
Serve over brown rice.

This sounds delicious! I can’t wait to try it! How long do you leave the chicken in the crock pot after putting it back in that the end(after adding cornstarch mix)?

I made this tonight. I was disappointed. The chicken was too dry, the sauce did not thicken up like I thought. Not a keeper !!!

If you are having problems with the cornstarch, you might not have let the sauce get hot enough. It has to get to close to boiling for it be able to absorb the water thicken the sauce. If it’s not as thick as you want, just add more corn starch or let some of the water boil off, problem solved.

I don’t have a crock pot. Can I just put it in a regular pot on simmer?

I cooked it on high in my crockpot for 2 hours and it turned out delish! I also took some of the juices out of the crock and put in a pan on the stove to add the corn starch as you would for gravy. After thickened I put it back into the crockpot. Doing this you don’t have to cook it for 20 mins and you are sure it thickens as bringing it to boil is what turns the cornstarch to a thickening.
