Last week I pinned a few Kitchen Command Centers ideas while on Pinterest. I think the idea is just genius and if you’re like me and you crave organization then you’ll love it too. My inspiration came from Girl Loves Glam and . You can check theirs out too and there are plenty more on Pinterest that you might find inspiring as well. For me, I just used the things I loved (and we needed) from each one. For example, I didn’t include menu planning because I use the large chalkboard in the kitchen to write our dinner plans on each week.
As much as I love organization sometimes life gets busy and my home doesn’t always reflect that. I loathe a junk drawer but since moving into the house more than one drawer at the desk in the kitchen has become a catch-all. Then I would end up pulling each and every thing out of the drawer as I searched for the spare keys or camera charger, it really had to stop.
I think this is the perfect solution.
And a little explanation of everything.
- Spare Keys- I attached command hooks to the inside of the cabinet to hang spare keys. I didn’t like the idea of adding any holes to the kitchen cabinet and in my experience these have always held up really well.
- Medicine- That’s just a big basket of random medicine from Tylenol to Orajel. In it’s new spot everything is in one place and it’s up way too high for toddler hands to reach.
- Monthly Reminders for Special Dates- I literally just made this sheet in word by creating one line in the middle to write the month on and then several small lines beneath to write names and dates of birthdays and anniversaries. I printed it on the zig zag border paper to add a little something and inserted the paper into a sheet protector. I’ll be able to write on it with a dry erase marker and erase each month.
- Chore Chart- I love the accountability this gives me. I listed specific chores that need to be completed daily, weekly and monthly. I easily created this chart in Word using a 3 column lay out. It is also in a sheet protector so I can use a dry-erase marker and re-use the chart.
- Allen’s Basket and Cords and Chargers Basket- I picked these baskets up at Hobby Lobby last week. Allen always has random things like these white pens he uses to write on granite. I would steal them like I do his beloved Uni-Ball pens that he leaves laying around everywhere, but you can’t even write with these things on anything except granite countertops. So I’ll just put them in his basket from now on. (Side note: He just read this post over my shoulder and said “They’re called China markers, Jennifer. I still have no clue what I could use them for, so I’ll continue to put them back in the basket). The Cords and Chargers basket was huge for me because I’ve been the one frantically searching the house for a camera charger the night before vacation. I now have a solution to that problem.
- Recipe Binder, Home Managment Notebook and Address Book. No explanation needed. You can see more about out Home Management Notebook here and Address Book here.
- Thank-You Notes and Stationery- Easily accessible and I actually hope this will make it easier for me to just drop a note in the mail sometimes. Snail mail still trumps technology any day of the week.
- Cork Board- Allen cut out this cork board to match the shape of the recess in the cabinet door. I attached it with 3M strips and I’ll use the top part for invitations and announcements.
