Last fall I saw a few of my favorite Instagrammers bible journaling, so I set out to give it a try. I just doodled in the margins of my bible while I was studying one morning and the rest is basically history. I tried using the bible I already had, but eventually a Journaling Bible made its way to my Christmas list, and it quickly became my favorite.
I love the entire concept for so many reasons. Mainly, it combines two of my favorite things: creativity and scripture. I’ve always been a draw in the margins studier. My books from college adorned with doodles and my name written a million different ways. It’s what works well for me, and I’m just thrilled to have found this outlet for studying my bible each day.
BK even loves to join in on the journaling with me. I treasure these sweet times with her, and love how she’s engaging in creativity while learning about Jesus.
I’ve acquired quite the collection of supplies over the past year or so, and I wanted to share them with you, in case you’re looking to start journaling or maybe you just need some fresh ideas.
Staedtler Pens– These are probably my favorite pens for any occasion. I use them in my planner and keep a set in my purse. They’re a great pen with a fine tip and are great for lettering. They do bleed through the pages, so be warned.
Acrylic Paint – Such a fun and expensive way to add color to the pages.
Staedtler Pigment Liners – These black pens come in a variety of sizes, they cost a little more, but they are a great tool for lettering. I use these the most of any supply.
Watercolor Set– It’s fun to have a water color set on hand. Not near as bold as the acrylic paint.
Frixion Erasable Markers – Erasable markers? Yes! They are vibrant and beautiful and they won’t bleed through the page.
Distress Markers – These markers are more like water colors, you can add a little water and create beautiful art. There are also tons of YouTube videos on how to use these.
Crayola Twistables– Another favorite! These blend really easily and create vibrant color on the pages.
White Eraser– I ordered a good eraser after watching video, I write all of the letters in pencil to begin with, and sometimes there is a good bit or erasing involved. This is great to have on hand.
Washi Tape – I pick up washi tape all of the time! I love to accent my pages with washi!
Uni-Ball White Gel Pen (not pictured)- Great for accenting letters.

Very cool! I’ve always added notes and dates to the edges of my Bible, but never thought of actually drawing or coloring. I love that!

I bought the erasable markers and pens, and discovered that using a heat gun to dry a bible page is a definite no-no. The heat makes the ink disappear! Just thought others would like to know.

Ahh! I had no idea, I’ve never used anything to dry it before, thanks for sharing!
