I took a brief hiatus from blogging this week, it felt good, but not good enough to stay away for Five on Friday. It was really unintentional, and I would love to tell you that I accomplished tons of non-blog related things, but that’s not really the case. Unless you count making blackberry cobbler and watching Scandal accomplishments, that is. I’ll return in full force next week, but until then, I give you Five On Friday.
- There is a local you-pick farm that has chemical-free blackberries and blueberries. We stopped by on our way to church Wednesday night and picked 2 gallons of blackberries. We’ll go back one day next week for blueberries. I love supporting local businesses, and I love fresh fruit that I can feed to BK without wondering what was added to the fruit during the growing process. I made a blackberry cobbler with the goods yesterday and it was so good, Allen expected me to bring some home, but there wasn’t a single bite leftover. I’m making it again tonight to take to his parents house, he almost had me convinced to make another one late last night. I’ll be sure to blog the exact recipe, I want to make a few more tweaks to get it just right. Check out her dress in that picture below, it’s on backwards. I can’t tell you how many times we make it somewhere, only to realize that Allen has put her dress or shirt on backwards. For the record, I’m laughing, not complaining. I’ll take a husband that helps out any day, even if it does mean a backwards dress every once in a while.
- I really need to go work in my classroom more. I’m doing a ton of things at home to get ready for next year, I sneak them in when BK naps or early in the morning. I love the promise of a new year, new faces and a fresh start. But, I want a little more time with this girl. We’re loving these summer days and this week the heat wasn’t unbearable. We had lunch with my mom and played at the park. I had big plans to get so much more accomplished this summer, to let her hang out with grandparents a day or two during the week, but it’s tough. We actually do hang with Nanny and Papaw some during the week, but you better believe I’m tagging along too, reliving my youthful summer days by the pool. And it feels really good.
- Allen and I are officially hooked on Scandal. Back in the day, we had marathons with 24 and Prison Break, but it’s been a long time since we’ve stayed up late watching a series we were both hooked on. We started Scandal on the recommendation from so many Twitter friends and the trusty, Blue-Eyed Bride. The characters are so dynamic and I find myself wishing I worked for Olivia Pope, solving crisis after crisis. We blew through the first season and we’re 6 episodes into season 2. I’m not sure how I’ll be able to wait until fall once we finish season 2, I better start rationing out the episodes. Moms On Call until BK was older, we had a good schedule and I had no need to make any changes. But, somehow we got off track, we started having a visitor in our bed, and we didn’t do much to change things. I’m more of a fixer than a complainer. I believe you have to expend your energy in some way, and I might as well suck it up and fix things rather than spend all of my time and energy complaining about them. I can tell you about melt-downs in Publix over chocolate-chip cookies and blame it on age, but I know I’m to blame, big-time. I haven’t given her what she needs as far as stability and schedule, set nap times and even bed times. I’ll report back to you when things are fixed, or when I need some help fixing them.
- I feel like one of the Friday Five spots always belong to house updates and home improvements. While I was at Pure Barre last Saturday and BK was sleeping, Allen installed granite in the laundry room >and he was finishing up the back splash when I came back home. It’s such a huge improvement, I have a few more finishing touches (story of my life, I know) and I’ll give you a tour, and a before and after. Here’s what the agenda looks like for next week, hold me accountable, mmmkay?
- Frame and hang monogram in BK’s room
- Update BK’s bathroom (I have a few new things to hang)
- Hang something on the wall in the living room (it’s the least decorated room in the house)
- Garage organizer
- Magnetic board for the playroom

I’m pretty sure I’m the only person who hasn’t started watching Scandal. I need to get on that!

My husband and I just watched Scandal this weekend…. We saw all the available episodes in 2 nights! I can’t wait for more! There’s a similar series called House of Cards, it’s a Netflix’s original. We absolutely loved it! I watched the whole first season during the first week of my maternity leave. It made a lot easier having to wake up at night for nursing!
