This weekend, we celebrated BK’s 5th birthday with a rainbow party! I feel like maybe I need to preface this post by saying that party planning is near and dear to my creative heart. I love a good themed party and pulling little details together to create the perfect party.
This year, I asked Braylen what she had in mind for her birthday party and her answer was a rainbow party, her only specifics were, use all the colors, even pink. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect starting point than that. Do you know how easy it is to find things for a rainbow party? The decor was a dream, and I didn’t worry about matching specific shades of colors, I tried to stay away form pastels, but other than that, any color in the rainbow (and even pink) was game.
After getting all of the details together, I purchased balloons in bulk at Party City to add more color to the party. We definitely used an air compressor to blow these balloons up and did it while Judson was napping on Friday.
We used the balloons for topiaries in the yard and a huge string of balloons for garland on the back deck. The balloon garland was a labor of love! Allen actually strung them altogether, I knew what I wanted in my head, but I wasn’t sure how we would make it a reality. Thankfully, he was a man with a plan and made it come to life for me.
Balloons proved to be an extremely practical way to add a ton of color to the party without breaking the bank.
At our house, we have an enclosed back deck that connects to a larger open deck. We cleared off the furniture and covered the television on the enclosed porch for the food and drinks. On the open area, we set up tables and chairs and a huge canvas for the party guests to paint.
Rainbow punch was served in glass jars.
My sweet and talented friend, Lauren created all of the beautiful printables for the party.
We set up a small candy bar for guests to fill up a bag and take a sweet treat home.
We had delicious cake and ice cream, chips and dip, CFA nuggets with plenty of dipping sauce, fresh fruit, and colored Goldfish.
I went back and forth on cupcakes or a cake and ultimately decided on a cake after spotting that plant stand at Hobby Lobby recently. I had Allen spray it white and I attached ribbon around the edges. I love the height that it gave the cake!
This table was definitely my favorite part. It was the first thing I planned when I started the process and it came out just perfect.
I also knew I wanted the guests to be able to paint at the party. Allen built a frame and stretched canvas drop cloth over the frame to create a huge canvas.
I love the way it turned out! So much fun!
We sang Happy Birthday and blew out the candles, opened a few gifts, and then played some more!
This is seriously the best we could do for a group photo.
And Allen surprised Braylen (and me) with a new guitar. She was thrilled and has been playing it every chance she gets.
We had so much fun celebrating our sweet FIVE year old. A huge thank you to all of our family >and friends who came and made it so special for her. And my mom, who dedicated at least a night a week to party prep, spent the night on Friday night and worked with me all day on Saturday to make it all come to life. I seriously couldn’t have done it without her help.
