I’ve always thought it would be neat to make baby food for Braylen. So it was pretty exciting for me when she started being able to eat solids. It’s really simple and I like knowing exactly what is going into her food. Last night I made avocados, carrots, and butternut squash.
The carrots had to be steamed so I used the steamer and steamed a bag full of baby carrots.
Once they were steamed I put them in the blender to puree them. In order to get them really smooth (the consistency of stage 1 baby food) add in the babies milk or formula.
While the carrots were steaming I got the avocados ready. Avocados don’t need to be cooked or steamed so I just cut them in half and removed the seed.
Then I sliced them up and blended them with some milk until smooth.
For the butternut squash I roasted it in the oven. I just cut the squash in half, removed the seeds and laid the pieces cut side down in a shallow baking dish. Then I put about a half inch of water in the pan and baked for about an hour.
It becomes really soft in the oven so I just scooped it out and pureed it with Braylen’s milk.
Then I used ice cube trays with lids to store the food.
Labeled them and put them in the freezer.
And when you need them? I pop out a few cubes the night before and put them in a small tupperware bowl in the refrigerator. The next day they are thawed and ready to be warmed and eaten!
And Braylen tried avocado last night…
And she actually did pretty well with it.

We did the same thing! So easy and great to know exactly what’s in their food. I would freeze them in the icecube trays, and then pop them all out into ziplock bags (freezer ones) and label the bag. Kirsten’s just old enough now that she’s starting to eat real table food, that’s a whole different story, ha! Braylen is adorable, by the way:-)
