First, we made heart shaped crayons. We peeled the crayons and broke them into pieces. She especially liked this part. At first she said “Mommy, you broke a color. Oh no, oh no!” But then she quickly realized it was fun.
I picked up a pack of glitter crayons to melt in with the others just for an added touch of fun.
Put aluminum foil under the cookie cutters so they don’t leak out. This step is important and you should make sure it’s tightly wrapped around the cookie cutter and secure or they will leak out. And… you will have a mess. Just FYI. Put the broken pieces into the molds. Another important thing is to fill them up with as many crayons as will fit. I didn’t put quite enough and now I’m wishing they were thicker. Bake on a cookie sheet at 300 degrees for about 5 minutes. Be careful and make sure you take them out right as they start to liquefy. If you leave them in too long after they have liquefied then it will make one big ugly color.
They wouldn’t have made such a mess had I secured the foil, but I didn’t so it leaked out on the tray. Once they cooled I used a knife to loosen the edges and they popped right out.
Then, we peeled even more crayons to make chunky crayons in the mini-muffin tin.
After they cool pop them out of the containers. I just popped them out with a knife and they came out clean. They turned out so pretty and it was neat to see how the colors mixed together. BK was coloring with them before I left for work this morning and she loved her new colors.
Here’s another look at our Valentine’s Day inspired crayon.

I love this! I may have to pick up some extra crayons today for this! Easton loves to color and this would help him not break so many if they were thick and chunky! Good going!

What a fun Valentine’s Day idea! Found your blog through Blue Eyed Bride, who I started reading way back when I was first starting wedding plans. Love reading about your adventures with B, and thought it was neat to learn you are also from the Bham area. Happy early Valentines Day! ๐
