One of my favorite types of ornaments involves Braylen’s handprint. While her hands will grow each year, I’ll have a reminder of just how tiny she once was. I love to put them on the Christmas tree and pull them out each year, each ornament full of a new set of memories.
I used salt dough to make circular handprint ornaments for Braylen’s pink tree. Salt dough is simple and easy to make and the options are endless. Find your favorite cookie-cutter and adorn your tree to your heart’s desire with custom ornaments.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup salt
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup luke warm water
Directions:
- Mix salt and flour in a large mixing bowl.
- Gradually add water until it forms a workable, doughy consistency.
- Form a ball and knead the dough for several minutes (3-5), the longer you knead, the easier it will be to work with.
- Roll out your dough on a powdered surface.
- Use a round cutter to press out circles.
- Press your childs hand or foot print directly onto the dough. Use a straw or small round object to punch out a hole for hanging (if you are making ornaments).
- Bake at 200 degrees for 50-60 minutes. The dough will dry out while baking and you want it to be completely dry.
- Once it has cooled you can paint the ornaments. I used the glossy Martha Stewart paint with shimmer and tied a green ribbon on the top to coordinate with Braylen’s tree.

So, I found your blog from googling a recipe for these ornaments. I suck at anything crafty, so I was very intimidated, but somehow felt I could tackle from your instructions. They’re in the oven now, fingers crossed they came out okay! Thank you! ๐
