Last year, a local boutique sold these adorable vintage keys and called them “Santa’s Magic Keys.” I can’t tell you how many they sold, but I know they kept getting more and more and would sell out the same day. The keys were beautiful. The idea? Perfect. I just tucked the idea away and when this holiday season rolled around I purchased a set of 6 antique keys from Etsy.
I’ve seen several poems attached to the keys but my favorite involves Jesus and Santa.
Dear Santa, This magic key works just for you, please open the door and come on through. Thank you for coming to our home tonight. We are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Thank you Santa for the gifts you bring. Thank you Lord for everything.
This little project is quick and easy to make. Just attach ribbon to a vintage key and hang from your door knob. I just typed the poem in Word and backed it with green card stock. We’ll hang it on the outside of our door on Christmas night for Santa. It’s especially perfect for houses without a chimney. Now, when BK gets older I won’t have to explain how he comes down out non-existent chimney. I could probably get away with it for a few years but one day she’ll realize that we have wood burning logs and no chimney for Santa to shimmy down.
I mentioned to you that I bought a set of 6 from an Etsy seller, I’ll be making 5 more of these and sending them by mail to some of our friends. It’s a unique and inexpensive way to spread a little holiday cheer.
