I’m still addressing some of the questions I received from the post last month. I still have a few more, but I will eventually answer them all. Today, I’m talking hair tips and tricks and my absolute must-have products. I’m not brand-loyal, but when I find something I love, I usually stick with that product. I’m always asking my friends about their products and open to try new things if they come highly recommended (by a friend with great hair, of course).
Here’s a quick look at my favorite hair products and styling tools:
My hair routine is so simple. When my hair is damp, I use Aveda Phomollient, it’s perfect for styling my fine hair and adds just the right amount of volume. I blow dry my hair with the Remington Tstudio Ceramic Hair Dryer using a large round brush, the Olivia Garden brush (the bigger, the better), to be exact.
I put my make-up on after it’s dry, it does better with a little time in between blow-drying and styling. Once I’m ready to begin styling it, I add a little Big Sexy Hair Powder Play at my part and tease it just a little. Then, I take chunky sections of hair and curl using a 1/2-inch curling iron .
In the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that my hair is really fine. If your hair is thicker or course, you may need to go up a size in the curling iron department. This just works for me, I probably curl 5 or 6 sections on each side, flip my head over and shake it out. When I do this, the Powder Play gives me a little extra volume and the curls separate. I finish it off with Paul Mitchell Extra Body Finishing Spray.
There are other products I use, just not on a daily basis.
- Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo– If you aren’t naturally blonde, like myself, this product will become your best friend. It tones my hair immediately and takes out the brassy color that my blonde likes to turn after a few weeks. Best of all? It extends the time in between salon visits. I don’t use it every day, just once or twice a week to really brighten the blonde.
- Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo– This is my favorite dry shampoo. by far. I love that it creates volume and the illusion that I spent a ton of time washing and styling my hair.
- Coconut Oil- Pick some up at Wal-Mart and use it on a weekly basis. It helps my hair stay healthy and gives it a nice shine.
- Creaseless Hair Ties- My favorite hair tie and you can make your own at a fraction of the cost.
Tell me, what is your favorite hair product? Am I missing something great?
**Note- I didn’t review any of these products, they are all in the third drawer of my bathroom cabinet and used (and loved) daily by me, the links are Amazon affiliate links. They’ll take you straight to the product**

I have extremely fine hair as well and I haven’t tried new products in YEARS.
I’m totally going to have to give these a try! Who doesn’t love volume? I mean, other than those with too much volume anyway… ๐

My hair is semi-fine and highlighted too so I’ll be giving some of these products a try. Thanks for the recommendations. The Phomolient and Powder Play sound great – I’m always trying to get more volume.
I really like Dove’s dry shampoo – it leaves the least residue on my hair and smells much better than most. And you can’t beat the price or convenience of picking it up at Target. Another cheapie product I love is the Aussie brand 3 Minute Miracle. It’s a good deep conditioning treatment for a bargain. I use it once a week or so.

I started using Nexus volumizing mousse plus. I also have very fine hair, just a lot of it. I put it on my hair when it’s damp, then throw it up in jumbo hot rollers, then use it again once it’s styled for extra hold. It works great and I use it in lieu of hair spray!

I use another brand of the Big Sexy Powder Play, love it. Seriously where did we fine haired girls live before it!

Love it! We use so many of the same products. I use that exact hair dryer and brush and phomollient has been my BFF since high school. ๐ Sometimes the powder play gives my thick, coarse hair too much thickness at the root, and other times it’s perfect. Love it!

I just started using the phomollient a couple of weeks ago and LOVE it! I have very fine hair and have a hard time finding something that has styling hold but doesn’t weigh my hair down. I am interested in trying the new John Frieda Volumnizing Shampoo and Cnditioner…I need all the help I can get!

How do you use the coconut oil in your hair? Like as a deep conditioning treatment? Overnight? I have some and don’t know how to use it on my hair. I have fine hair too so I’m happy to hear your tips and tricks!
