I’ll try to make this more like a blog post, rather than a novel. I had planned to post this Friday, while things were fresh on my mind, but newborn snuggles are way more appealing than blog posts.
So, let’s just take it back to Friday morning, which was a fairly normal morning around here. We didn’t have to be at the hospital until 10:30, my mom picked BK up right before we left. They had lunch before heading to the hospital while we were getting checked-in.
Once we arrived, they immediately started getting things ready, lovely IV in my arm, heart rate monitor for the baby, and all of the fun stuff that comes with c-section prep. Before she started the IV, I had a genuine moment of panic, everything was moving pretty fast and I wanted to see BK before going back. The thought of the delivery got really real, Allen was quick to assure me things were going to be just fine.
I should probably add that I usually pass out from just a shot in my arm. There’s something about needles and blood that I can’t handle.
It all worked out as planned and BK came to visit me for a few minutes before going back for the c-section.
As soon as I got in the room, the anesthesiologist was ready for the spinal, and it was right after getting the spinal that I was finally able to relax about the whole experience. From there things went quick, really quick. The c-section started at 12:30 and we heard his first cry around 12:43.
Thankfully, there were no complications. My blood pressure stayed stable, I didn’t feel any side effects from the spinal and the procedure went as planned.
It was very obvious from the beginning that he has a healthy set of lungs. His cries quickly filled the room while they assessed him, checked his weight and height. Judson Allen weighed in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and was 21 inches long.
While my doctor was finishing up, I was able to hold Judson for the first time and he immediately calmed down and stopped crying. I was instantly in love with this little guy.
He was a great eater from the beginning, and he’s been doing a great job ever since. His billirubin levels were great on Monday morning, and he had actually managed to gain a little while Sunday night, so we got to skip the pediatrician visit this week and wait until he’s two weeks old.
We are so thankful for a healthy and happy baby.
We spent a little time in recovery and then let Braylen and Brooke come in first. I had asked Brooke to come and take pictures of Braylen meeting Judson for the first time, it was the perfect way to document the day and she captured some of the sweetest moments. I’ll share more later on their first meeting and the rest of our day, but here’s a peek at a few of her photos from the day.
We came home yesterday and I was just happy to have the whole family under the same roof. I have to say, we have the best family, my mom made an amazing batch of lasagna for dinner, my nanny did all of our laundry and Allen’s mom stocked our pantry and fridge.
Last night was pretty eventful as storms rolled through, we actually thought we might have to camp out in the basement for a little while, but thankfully, we stayed tornado-free.

Congrats! He is beautiful. And that black and white photo of the three of you is so precious! I am jealous you got to hold him right away; I didn’t get to hold my c-section babies until much later. Glad to hear everything went as planned. And soak up that newborn baby smell – I miss that! ๐

Congrats on the new addition to your family! Also, I so glad I’m not the only adult that wants to pass out at the sight of needles. I passed out from a TB test once and that’s the one thing that terrifies me with giving birth someday. I think I can handle the pain if I can get pass all the needles! Eek!

Oh dear goodness, I love these photos. This post is making me so emotional because I know I will be doing the exact same thing in just a few short months. I love that they let you do skin to skin contact after your c-section. I am going to request that!!!
