Let me just go ahead and catch you up on a few fun Thanksgiving festivities. BK had her annual Thanksgiving program and art show at school. True to form, she sang loud and proud on the stage. We don’t expect anything less with this girl, she loves being the center of attention and being on stage is right up her alley. She did make some pretty funny faces and when we asked her about them after it was over she said, well Mrs. Kristie said we should smile when we’re on stage and it’s hard to sing and smile at the same time.
She’s been singing these songs for us for weeks, so we were happy to see her sing them on stage with her classmates. I was a little worried about how Jud would act, because we end up sitting still for a good hour, but he did just fine. He was actually pretty interested in the show.
Wednesday night, we celebrated Thanksgiving with Allen’s family. It’s become a little tradition to have a non-traditional Thankgiving dinner the night before (think steak and baked potatoes) and it’s so much fun.
BK wanted to wear her princess crown to dinner.
Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite days of the year. There’s food and family without the fuss over gifts and with fewer expectations. This is the third year we’ve hosted Thanksgiving at our house. I think there were between 35 and 40 people at our house on Thursday. It seems to grow each year and that’s fine by me. If you know us, you know that there is rarely a weekend we aren’t opening our doors for friends or family. Be it a football game or a birthday party, a last-minute Halloween hay ride or just a quick dinner, we’re often surrounded by people we love. And we like it that way.
I didn’t hesitate when my mom asked if we would just do Thanksgiving at our house again. Of course, we would. My mom and I spent most of the day on Wednesday baking casseroles and desserts. Both of my grandmothers bring their dressing, Allen’s mom brought a huge turkey, and everyone else bring their favorite Thanksgiving dishes. Our kitchen was filled with food, and Allen put together a corn hole tournament in the back yard. The weather was perfect and we were reminded of all of the wonderful people we are thankful for, all in one place.
Allen was loved by all of the kids because he put together a big leaf pile in the front yard. It provided entertainment all day long. Allen was totally trumped by Chase when he brought the leaf blower out, it was basically the best thing ever in the kids minds.
And we managed to snag a family picture at some point during the day. At this point, I’m not concerned with us all looking and smiling, just that we’re all in the same frame.
I hope your Thanksgiving was just as sweet!

I am so on the boat of all of us in the same frame- we stacked my camera on a stool and used the self-timer this Thanksgiving because we only have four pictures of all us… Your little ones are adorable AND I can not wait to bake with my little ones in the kitchen-priceless.

It’s the best!! And sometimes I just want a picture so I can look back and remember it all, I have to remind myself it doesn’t have to be perfect, we just need to be together!
