Is that a funny title? Since I read all of these books electronically, so none of the books ever graced my bookshelf.
Either way, I’m trying to read more these days, so I thought recapping my recent reads on the blog would be fun.
Here’s a look at what I’ve read recently:
The Girl on the Train /Where’d You Go, Bernadette /
The Girl On The Train, Paula Hawkins I kept hearing buzz about this book and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and take some time to read it for myself. I read through the book quickly, it started a little slow, but it didn’t take long to pick up momentum. Here’s the thing, I don’t particular love suspense and thriller, they give me major anxiety. Of course, I know it’s just a book, but I prefer my suspense in mild doses. This was just the ticket. After it started to pick up, I couldn’t put it down! I would definitely recommend reading the book for yourself. I could only give it 4 stars though, because I felt like the main character was a little hard to love for the majority of the book.
Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maris Semple I was pretty skeptical going into this book, because I’m not a huge fan of satires. But, for whatever reason, I loved reading this one. I became invested in the main character and her family, and all of her many quirks. The mystery aspect of this book is fun and I seriously couldn’t put it down! I would definitely recommend reading this book, too! I’m giving it 5 stars because it’s a type of writing I wouldn’t more like, and it sucked me right in for the entire book.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo This is my most recent read! Obviously, it’s very different than the other two I recently read. Maria Kondo runs a consulting business in Tokyo where she transforms clients homes from cluttered to tidy. If you feel like me and you’re constantly cleaning up after everyone in your family, you’ll be nodding your head in agreement throughout the entire book. It was so good that I downloaded it on Audible and asked Allen to listen to it while he was driving and he was sold. The first night we started task one and stayed up to 3:00 AM tackling our clothes situation. Go buy this book now.
We have a beach trip planned for this weekend and I would love to know out a book or two. What have you read recently that you love?

I’ve read the first two and really enjoyed them both. We are getting ready to sell our house, so the third one sounds like a “must read”. I really want to be decluttered before we move into the new house!
Jennifer says
Yes, it would be the perfect time to read it!

I read all of these. “Where’s Bernadette” was my definite fav. Such a fun, engaging read. “The Girl…” was good but not as great as the hype made it sound. The tidying one was just a bit too militant about the entire concept for my taste. I did take a few pointers from it.

Not really a beach read, but last year’s “All the Light We Cannot See” was a good one. WWII era, but a different kind of book about that period. Big plus for me – the chapters were short – like maybe 3-10 pages each, so that allowed me to read for short amounts of time and have a good stopping place and not feel constantly interrupted (which is what seems to constantly happen when kids are around,)
