So I have a little hair secret. A couple of weeks ago, my fantastic hair stylist asked me about doing some photos for a Mother’s Day ad for their salon. Of course, I was all for it, and then he mentioned hair extensions. Cue one hundred and one questions from me. My hair is pretty long, but it’s not very thick and it’s super fine, nothing that has ever caused me to seek out hair extensions. To be honest, I’d never even considered adding them to my hair.
But, I’ll admit. I was intrigued and after answering my burning questions, I was pleased with the answers and agreed to give the Vomor Hair Extensions a shot. My hair had recently been colored, so I met up with him at the salon about two weeks ago and in about an hour my hair was completely transformed. Isn’t that crazy?
I’ve had them for almost two weeks now and I still do a double-take when I see my thick ponytail, I never knew just how great thick hair could be. I thought I would go over some of the questions I initially had and let you know how they’re working out for me.
Are they noticeable? No! Absolutely not at all. My friends typically talk about how great my hair looks and then I let them in on the secret and they never believe me. The typical response is, but your hair doesn’t look like it has extensions! They blend so well, it’s crazy. The extensions are put in with a special tape that adheres to a layer of your hair, so they lie completely flat against your scalp. It also helps that he colored matched them perfectly to my hair, so they blend seamlessly. Side note: My stylist, Brantley, told me I didn’t even have to tell anyone about the extensions, but y’all, I couldn’t look you in the eye when you’re telling me how great my hair looks and NOT tell you the truth. Plus, we’re better friends than keeping secrets. Right?
What about washing and drying my hair? Get ready for this, the extensions are real hair, so I can do anything to them that I would do to my hair. I wash them, dry them, and either curl or straighten them just like I normally would. I do use a special loop brush to brush my hair, but other than that, nothing changed. Except of course, I have super thick hair and it looks so much better styled now. One huge upside is that now my hair doesn’t get as oily and I can get by with dry shampoo and only wash it every 2-3 days. Two weeks ago, I was washing and drying every single day, so I have a little more time on my hands these days.
But, will they damage my hair? No way!! This was actually a deal breaker for me, I didn’t want any part of anything that might damage my hair (I just realized how funny that sounds from someone who regularly colors her hair, but you know what I mean, I didn’t want to pull a Britney and have bald spots). The great news is, these won’t damage my hair at all. Many people even use them as an option while growing out color damaged hair.
How long do they last? They last around 6-8 weeks, and then can be taken out and reapplied. This makes them a great option because the initial cost is at the beginning, and you don’t have to purchase new ones every time. Your stylist will be able to remove them and reapply them closer to the scalp as your hair grows. I’ll just time it with my usual hair appointments for one salon trip every 8 weeks or so.
And do you want a little peek at that Mother’s Day ad I was telling you about? I felt like there wouldn’t be a single picture of us all looking at the camera and smiling, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this…
dress from Theadora Abbeyluxe, here’s the exact dress on their Facebook page.
I have been diligently trying to replicate that same hair in the pictures above, but I’m just not quite that good. Yet.
Local friends, here are a few details: I use Brantley at Colorbar Salon, even if you aren’t quite ready for something as dramatic as extensions, he’s just amazing in general (I’ve basically known him for my whole entire life — we literally grew up going on vacation together every year), and I’d recommend him for anything you need done to your hair, especially color! So go call him and get booked for fresh hair for spring!
Because I have to disclose crazy things like this, I did receive the extensions in exchange for taking the photos, the blog post was just a bonus. I don’t receive any monies for any links in this post, but they could result in crazy good hair for you. The pink dress was from a local boutique, Theadora Abbeyluxe, I gave it back when the clock struck 12:00. I mean, at the end of the photo shoot.
