Today, I’m talking about adding a little color to your life before shorts season comes. I’m talking about a tan, friends. Nice, bronze, sun-kissed skin. When I was younger, I would lay in the tanning bed to get some color and I cringe to think about the damage that did to my skin. It’s been a while since I’ve been, or felt the suns rays without some UV protection. It’s twice-yearly skin checks and sunscreen and hats for me these days.
But, I still love a good tan. I typically get my fix my getting a good spray tan, they’re quick and easy, last about a week, but they can be pricy (and even though it’s quick, it’s hard to find the time to go alone).
I’ve tried a ton of different sunless tanners, and none of them seem to give me the results I achieve from a spray tan.
Until recently.
I was getting my nails done and someone recommended a sunless tanning mousse. Nope, I said. I end up orange and streaked, and yes, I’ve tried it all from the drug store brands to the way over-priced brands. Y’all she was adamant that I could do this. She recommend a mitt for application and a few minutes later I was on Amazon ordering.
I started using this last month and haven’t looked back. In real life, I’m really pale, like a shade or two lighter than Allen is in this picture.
Just because I really love you, I put it on one leg for comparison. Y’all, I totally forgot I did this and went to Publix like this last night.
So what is this magic stuff? It’s Tanwise Dark Tanning Mousse (I use the dark version) and Face Gel.
Here’s the mitt I ordered to apply it evenly, it comes with a small applicator for your face, too.
So here are a few tips/information about the process.
- I apply this to my whole body twice a week after I shower, after I put on lotion and it dries. You really want your skin to be moisturized.
- I apply the face tanner every other day.
- I use a loofah and exfoliate with a scrubbing micro-bead wash in the shower on the days that I am going to use this.
- I always use the mitt, it will save your hands and between your fingers. To keep it from streaking, I just literally rub it in until it’s completely dry. Any spot where it’s still wet is going to show darker, so make sure it’s all rubbed in.
You can totally do this! Don’t be afraid of it like I was, there are actually tanners that will give you a great natural look!

AND, I’m gonna need this in my life. Also, I am dying that you went to Publix like that. ๐
