Sorry for the unexpected break, Allen announced around lunch time on Friday that we were going to sneak away to Nashville for about 24 hours for our anniversary. It was super fun, I’m back to reality now, but it definitely put a kink in my Blogtember plans.
Spontaneous travel trumps the blog. That’s just the way it is.
But, I thought I’d write a quick post today and get back to the challenge!
Back in July, loaned me a stack of books to read on my beach trip. If you don’t know, let me just tell you that she doesn’t recommend a bad book. I always read whatever she tells me, without question. We sometimes feel a little differently about the characters (ahem, Louisa Clark), but I always love chatting with her about the books.
READ. Can I cheat and do two?
Secrets of A Charmed Life by Susan Meissner – When Kristin gave me the books she said the were in order, starting with the best. She wasn’t kidding. This was probably one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The book is set during the London Blitz in 1940, and follows the story of two sisters. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it goes back and forth with flashbacks and I found the story so incredibly captivating. Did you know I used to skip ahead and read the end of books when I just couldn’t stand the suspense? Not with this one, even though I was tempted. This one wasn’t suspenseful in a scary way, I just wanted to read it so fast so I could find out what happened with these two sisters. And of course, I was sad when it was over.
Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult – Y’all. This book. I’m still thunking about the ending, I was completely thrown for a loop and had no idea it would end like it did. If there was ever a time old habits wanted to creep back in and tempt me to skip ahead it was in this book. It follows a young girl who is trying to find out what happened to her mother. It’ll have you thinking of every possible scenario, but I promise you might not see the actual scenario coming, so get ready for a twist.
Reading.
Lizzy and Jane by Katherine Reay – This book was a nice break after the two above. It’s a little more playful and so easy to read (so far, it may change in the end). Honestly, I thought I finished this book and was ready to pick up the fourth one when I realized I never even finished it back at the beach. Oops. So I’m currently reading a couple of chapters each night, even though I hope to sneak away for a few hours and finish it up.
To Be Read.
Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson – It’s the last one on my nightstand and I need to get it read and back to its rightful owner. Honestly, I know nothing about it yet, but I’ll be sure to update you when I do!

Secrets Of A Charmed Life is on my to-read list! I’ve heard such great thing about it. I read Leaving TIme last year, and really enjoyed it! I enjoy most of Jodi Picoult’s books though. I”m with you though — the ending of this one?! What! Haha. And Before I Go To Sleep is a fun thriller (although to be honest I read it quite a few years ago — although I recently watched the movie, which was a little too slow moving for my taste). ๐

I really liked Lizzy & Jane! I loved Reay’s Dear Mr Knightley, so if you enjoyed Lizzy & Jane once you finish it, I recommend that one!

I know what you mean about the ending to Leaving Time. I did not suspect it AT ALL. Wow. I loved Lizzy & Jane. I love Jane Austen everything. Before I Go To Sleep is really good. I hope you get to it soon.
