We celebrated Judson’s third birthday party with his favorite thing in the whole wide world (besides me, of course), dinosaurs. I don’t know when it happened, but sometime in the last year he fell in love with the prehistoric creatures. He even has an imaginary green dinosaur, he calls him Dino, and some days he runs away, and some days he’s around the house, but he’s always responsible for things going wrong.
Me: Who broke sisters necklace?
Judson: My green dinosaur did that!
What started as a fascination, has turned into a full blown obsession that everyone feeds into, dinosaur shirts and toys and books galore. So a dinosaur themed party was a no-brainer.
I have tons of pictures and I tried to narrow it down to my favorites, but that still left us with more than a typical blog post, so stick with me.
We went with the Adopt A Dinosaur idea for party favors and they were a huge hit! You can grab that printable here.
We had a simple dinosaur cake made at a local bakery. I let Jud look at some options and nothing could compete with a dinosaur holding a balloon (of course).
This party was actually super easy, we had most of the dino-decor already because we literally just pulled dinosaurs from his personal stash.
At this point in the game, we’ve amassed quite the collection of party supplies. I keep my personal stash in the craft room and friends and family shop it for their parties often.
I had this huge sign printed from Mpix, I might have shopped around for a better price, but I waited until the last minute and they are so incredibly quick with their shipping that I didn’t want to chance it!
I just added those huge leaves for an extra detail.
I made the two plants on either side of the table using tall grass from the floral section at Hobby Lobby, a few birds of paradise (those looked like the ultimate flower for a dinosaur party), and some moss to cover the floral foam. I love a little height on the table, and this was an easy project to add just the height we needed.
We added a moss table runner (we saved those from BK’s party a few weeks ago).
I wanted to incorporate things we already had, so we reused the palate boxes and pulled my favorite galvanized serving trays. There were a million ways to go with the party, but I like the orange and green combination best.
The dino signs all came from Hobby Lobby, they have a huge selection right now and they are almost always 50% off.
My dad and brother have a barbecue restaurant so they catered the sliders and chicken fingers, if you’re local and want people to be impressed with your food give them a call. I know I’m biased, but it always upstages my party.
The day of the party was a breeze, my mom and mother-in-law were here helping to set everything up and it went so smoothly. I had already completed all the decorations, so we just had to set everything up for the party!
We managed to snag a quick picture before the party started (side note: BK really wants you to see that she has lost two teeth).
We also set up the bounce house and a dino dig station. The bounce house was used for like 10 minutes before the kids realized their was a place to dig for dino fossils and then that is where they stayed the rest of the party.
Then it was time to sing to the birthday boy, eat cake, and open presents!

So fun!!! Seriously…everything was super cute and looks so effortless (even though I know it wasn’t). I also appreciate the fact you let the kids open presents in front of their friends. It is a random pet peeve of mine to help my kids pick out the perfect gift for their friend only to not see them receive their present. I think it teaches the kids to be a gracious receiver and it helps the guests get more excited about picking out thoughtful gifts.

We just had a Dinosaur 3rd birthday party too! I didn’t think I would enjoy it near as much as I did but it was simple and fun and everyone loved the decorations. I also felt sticking with the orange and green (we had navy too) was the best way to go. I’m a new fan of dinosaur parties! You did (and always do) a great job with Jud’s party.
