I’ll be linking up with the Nester for the next month as I join her 31 Days series this year. To start off math each day we have calendar time. We talk about the day, month and year and recite the date as a whole. A few weeks back we were saying the date, “Today is Monday, September 17, 2012,” and it hit me. This is the only Monday, September 17, 2012 I’ll ever have, what am I doing today?
It’s easy to rush through our days, to get caught up in the day-to-day routine, to long for the weekend. That’s where I am right now.
I decided to challenge myself for the next 31 days to live each day to it’s fullest, to find simple joy in our day-to-day. To play with Braylen more and take care of myself better. To call friends and send handwritten mail. To set the alarm clock earlier than I should and read my Bible more than I ever have.
Here’s to 31 days of putting forth an effort to notice the important things in life. 31 days of seeking out the simple joys in the seemingly mundane. 31 days of memorizing the sweet smile on Braylen’s face. To taking more care and consideration to the time I’m being given.
I hear it takes 21 days to make a habit, perhaps 31 could truly bring forth a better me. Perhaps I won’t have to make an effort to really live each day and enjoy the simplicity in our every day life when this series is over.
Because I know, before I even start, what I’m going to find.
I’m not sure what this will look like in blog form as the journey unfolds. Each night I’ll sit down and write about something profoundly simple that I’ve been overlooking. Something that has been lost in the abyss somewhere amongst the laundry and dinner cooking. The sweet smiles I haven’t been savoring because I’m too busy meal planning and making holiday wreaths. The cookies I haven’t been baking with Braylen because I’m too worried about my waistline. The friend I haven’t talked to because liking her picture on Facebook seems good enough.
Tomorrow I’ll be setting out to find something simply worthwhile about October 1, 2012.
Let me know if you’re linking up, I would love to follow along with your series.
